Hey, 2009. Time to leave, yet?

I bought a (frozen) Canadian lobster from the supermarket today, for £4. It's sitting in my fridge and I am awake at 2am* wondering what to do with it tomorrow. I feel like I should cook something special, but don't want lobster thermidor. It's freezing, so no lobster salad. I don't have sushi rice. My life is hard.

I feel like the best thing to do would be some baked potatoes or loaded skins, lobster and corn on the cob. I don't think I have corn on the cob and am not going anywhere until Christmas because of that absolutely terrifying black ice on the roads, so I may end up having it with, er, baked beans or something. Ah, well. £4.

In other news, am attempting to write more and kind of winning, except for IRL daring to trespass on my dreamytimes. How very dare it? I have a project coming up to try and aid My Great 2010 American Trip but that's in the air until the beginning of January, I think.

Quick meme, ganked from [livejournal.com profile] wiebke :

List the towns or cities where you spent at least a night away from home during 2009. Mark with a star if you had multiple non-consecutive stays.

Rome, Italy
Tunis, Tunisia
Zakynthos, Greece*
Athens, Greece
Amsterdam, Netherlands*
Andorra la Vella, Andorra
Messina, Sicily, Italy
Sitges, Spain*
Scarborough, England
London, England
Cork, Ireland

Ho hum. Hurry up, Christmas. :D

*Not losing sleep because of lobster. My internal clock has decided that I am nocturnal.

I'm not feeling very Christmas-y this year. I wish I were as its my favorite holiday but it really came up too fast and now I'm scrambling trying to get everything done. One thing I am looking forward to is two four day weekends in a row (we get Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve off at my job).

Good luck with the lobster : )

You're always so busy! It's awesome, but I don't envy you right now. ;)

I suppose at least you have some peaceful time to aim for! I know what you mean, though - when you're rushed around with stuff, it's hard to sit back and enjoy. Hopefully you'll be feeling more festive later in the week.

Thanks! I need the luck!

My top 5 ways to cook lobster

1. In a pot.
2. With some pot.
3. In a sauce of rare goat's milk butter with saffron and gold leaf.
4. Lobster pizza.
5. Have the maid do it.

Shut up please, I am busy deciding which delicate rare fruit to pair with which exotic game meat for tomorrow's luncheon.

I suggest peaches.

I'll take no suggestions from someone who doesn't know what to do with lobster.

I know exactly what I'll do with it in a minute!

(Fried lobster?)

I CAN'T BELIEVE you bought frozen Canadian lobster, instead of fresh and local lobster. Don't you even care about your carbon footprint? Not to mention the day in the future when lobsters take over the earth?

LOCAL LOBSTER. From the Mersey? Do you actually want me dead, bb? Dead!

We don't have fresh local lobsters, so thankfully there shall be none breaking into my house come the apocalypse. Unless they learn to drive, in which case they'll have one over me.

Now excuse me whilst I open a bottle of Hardy's to go with my dulce de leche.

Do you think the lobsters won't learn how to colonise the earth? Humans did it, so how hard can it be? FEAR THE CRUSTACEAN TAKEOVER.

'Tis a shame it's not alive and kickin'. [livejournal.com profile] gairid and I had so much fun at our lobster feast one year. And did she ever squirm when it was time to cook the lobbies! She had to leave the kitchen whilst I sent the lobbies to their delicious doom! =)

Lobsters are best pulled from the shell and dipped into melted butter.

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2009-12-22 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I couldn't do it! I really couldn't! I would have run right out of that room with [livejournal.com profile] gairid! I know it's really hypocritical of me, because the poor thing still has to be sent to the great lobster pot in the sky by someone, but ah well. ;)

Mmm, I bet it will be gorgeous with butter. I can't believe I've never, ever had to prepare one at home before. Feh!
