I've decided that, along with my writing, I'm going to go and do some painting this weekend. I've been meaning to get back into drawing and painting for some time (my childhood dream was always to be an animator) and I feel galvanised, especially given all those gorgeous pastels and watercolours I bought in Keswick a couple of weeks ago.

My mum is an astoundingly talented artist -- I need to scan in a picture of the beautiful mural of the Virgin Mary she did for a local school sometime - and I feel that I can never match her when it comes to painting.

Anyway, she's been clearing out my old room and decorating. Last night, she came across some paintings and asked me who had painted a picture of a sculpture in a Paris graveyard. I told her it was me.

'I thought you said you couldn't paint trees.'

'I can't,' I replied tersely. 'You know I can't.'

'But they were perfectly fine. It's a lovely picture. And I love how you captured the flow of the robes on the statue.'

I pretended that I thought she was loca and I didn't believe her. In reality, I was very pleased. She never gives praise where it's not due, so I know it was sincere. I'ma go and try painting some landscape in Knowsley. Doubtless, it'll have a backdrop of a very, very grey sky, but that's okay. It's easier to paint stupid clouds.

I've always dreamed of having a talent for painting, but alas...it's not meant to be, lol.
I'm glad your mum had a favourable impression of that painting! The theme sounds great.
Have fun painting the landscape! I rather like grey sky backdrops!

My dad is an artist, though he draws not paints. I've always wanted the talent. I got the writing from my mother and my sister got the art from my father. She is so good and I am so jealous but she wasted the talent, doesnt even do it for fun. If I had it I wouldnt waste it.

Have fun painting today : )

Hope the sky stays dry for you. It's pretty miserable in Ormskirk, right now.
