Brian Jacques noooo

I can't believe Brian Jacques is dead!

I grew up on the Redwall series and adored him as a child. Okay, the books got a litle samey in the end and I grew to dislike the black-and-white characterisation but he really inspired me to read. He also did a radio show for Mersey radio and I used to insist my dad put it on each Sunday morning. Never mind that I didn't get the jokes, it was Brian Jacques, my hero!

He also used to volunteer with the Royal School for the Blind in Liverpool, where my aunt was working as a doctor. He was delighted when she told him I loved his work and signed all my copies of his books with 'To my pal Becky.' It was such a lovely thing to do.

I want to go home and weep. The man was my first hero. Rest in peace, Brian.

The worst thing is that I clicked on a Guardian article which was all, 'So and so pays tribute to Brian Jacques's world' and I was all, 'HE'S NOT DEAD IS HE!'

Ah, no. It was just a commentary on his books, along with some other great authors. Except for that paragraph at the end which confirmed his death. :(

Ack. They probably keep those written up in case of the death of anyone in a likely age bracket, and then just tag on a line at the end stating the date/circumstances of the death. :(
