Anne Rice: The Srsly Wat round-up

A few weeks ago, I posted some absurd ranting from everyone's favourite Diminishing Returns author wherein she wondered how to 'stop manga'. I promised some hapless flist person (I forgot whom) that I'd post some of her greatest hits. Except I realised something as I picked out some great examples of the craziness on that wall... the fans on there are often way worse than her.

Here, have some of my favourite posts. Plus the Dreaded Nicki One.

Gagging right now. This was my favourite childhood poem. You've tainted it, you brown-noser.

*Wordless hand gestures*

To be fair, he was asking for it.

Man. I really hope people come to my Facebook page to tell me all about smiths.

This guy is the most annoying person on Facebook. He's trying to promote some failtastic vampire novel but does it by having three troll accounts who constantly reply to his posts with 'omg Lucian/Den I'm running out to buy your new book right now.' Today, he really, really wants to know what the biggest scandal of the church is.

Do not get me wrong. Louis is ~totes~ my favourite character in the entire VC but this does not diminish Nicki! I regard Nicki as hugely important to the whole Louis/Lestat tempest and believe that what happened with him haunts Lestat deeply. Why is he reduced to some dim 'adolescent'? I guess Our Conversation was about My Chemical Romance and smoking weed. >:|

Anne kept calling Tea Party members Tea Baggers. One of them objected because they didn't like the name. She Googled it. :D

Reads like a list of works plagiarised for the later books.

bahaha I do love that Harry Potter one

[identity profile] versailles-rose.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually,(and in full knowledge of the term)I use 'tea bagger' as a name for a follower of the Tea Party, and a lot of people do.

[identity profile] iskra667.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
lol, fun!

Louis has stopped being A Bastard and is now Lovable. She should have told AFP, I'd have missed this important news without you :(

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I know. But Anne didn't. :p

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently so! But he'll be The Worst again next week, I guess.

Poor Nicki! Why couldn't she hate one of the useless characters?

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It's priceless, isn't it? XD

[identity profile] timeofnoreply.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
WTF SHE DIDN'T EVEN SPELL NICOLAS'S NAME CORRECTLY AND SHE CREATED THE CHARACTER.

ANNE, NICOLAS COULDN'T CONTROL HIMSELF AS A MORTAL BECAUSE YOU WROTE HIM THAT WAY TO DISPLAY TO THE READERS WHY LESTAT BEHAVES THE WAY HE DOES TOWARDS LOUIS IN IWTV AND BEYOND.

NICOLAS = FIRST RELATIONSHIP THAT EVERYONE COCKS UP.

LOUIS = THE REBOUND.

GET IT FUCKING RIGHT ALREADY, MATER.

BRB SMASHING OFFICE SUPPLIES IN RAGE.

[identity profile] ashling-c.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps I'm showing my ignorance here but - Tea Party?

I do know what a tea bagger is. I found that out when I asked some people in my class if they remember Tea-bag for the TV show. And they were like 'no but we remember what tea bagging is from Sex and the City'

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! I KNOW! I'm not even the biggest Nicki stan but I was all, YOU DIDN'T! [/caps rage across Facebook, tbh].

Again, I love Louis (forgive me, bb! I can't help it!) but to diminish Nicki in such a way is fucking ridiculous.

[identity profile] versailles-rose.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
She is nearly 70. (and I can't believe I said something nice about the old bat)

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I know. I'm not mocking her for it! I love her Googling about it and then wanting to talk about it.

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Heehee.

I'm just going to copy and paste because I'm lazy and not good at explaining:

The Tea Party movement (TPM) is an American populist political movement which is generally recognized as conservative and libertarian, and has sponsored protests and supported political candidates since 2009. It endorses reduced government spending, opposition to taxation in varying degrees, reduction of the national debt and federal budget deficit, and adherence to an originalist interpretation of the United States Constitution.

The name "Tea Party" is a reference to the Boston Tea Party, a protest by colonists who objected to a British tax on tea in 1773 and demonstrated by dumping British tea taken from docked ships into the harbour. Some commentators have referred to the Tea in "Tea Party" as the bacronym "Taxed Enough Already".

[identity profile] versailles-rose.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, sorry. Here in the US, the Tea Party is a right-wing subgroup of the Republican party. One of their loudest leaders is Sarah Palin, the once governor of the State of Alaska. The term Tea Party comes from the Boston Tea Party, when radical colonist dressed up like Native Americans, boarded ships and tossed tea crates into Boston Harbor to protest taxes. It was a colossal waste of tea and pissed off Loopy King George lll.

So now you know.

Except for the part where the Tea Baggers (and I refuse to call them anything else) completely miss the point of what the Boston Tea Party was actually about. It wasn't a patriotic act - it was actually a bunch of rich idiot businessmen who decided that they didn't feel like paying the tax imposed by the Tea Act and would rather pay through the nose for smuggled tea that came in. By the way, said Tea Act stated that Britain would refund 4/5 the price it cost for the East India Company to ship the tea to America, therefore allowing it to be sold at a cheaper price than smuggled tea. In a nutshell, all it was doing was eliminating the middleman in the whole tea-importing process to make it cheaper for the American consumers.

The resulting Boston Tea Party only served to piss the British government the righteous fuck off and impose more taxes. Good going, morons.

Palin? *shudder*

Thanks for the info :)

....you don't mess with a Nicki stan on her Bad Lady Week. You just don't. :P

[identity profile] timeofnoreply.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I had the most hilarious image of Tina Fey watching IWTV and going, "Louis, you are THE WORST" while working on her night cheese.

Win!

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahahaa. Next time I'm in America, I want to drop in on you with a bottle of wine (or three) and discuss history and the sheer fuckwittedness of mankind till the small hours.

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahahaa. I can totes see that. :D

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Nicki stans: terrifying to the rest of fandom, tbh.

It's those creepy Marius stans we have to watch out for...

[identity profile] iskra667.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
In all honesty, I quite agree with her about Nicki. I don't think there is anything wrong with him per se, but just consider the emotional maturity of the average 20 year old boy... Especially a rich 20 year old who's never really had to worry about anything, spend all his youth in a backwood then go to Paris to party study as a an undergraduate... :D Lestat would have been a little more mature because of all his family shit, but probably not by tons still... Plus Lestat is such a drag-queen he'd have a teeny weeny bit of female maturity

Vampiric shit apart, Lestat is 31 when he meets Louis, has had 2 bad breakups, experienced some elaborate social drama with Armand and travelled the world.

Louis is 25 when he meets Lestat and spend his first 5 years with him behaving like an emo teen...

Am I the only one to see a pattern here?...

Men under 30...

LOL!

[identity profile] iskra667.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
What's a 'stan'? I guess I'm 70 too! :D

Re: Win!

[identity profile] timeofnoreply.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be the best!

[identity profile] timeofnoreply.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, but I feel the need to question an author's opinion of her own character when she can't even spell his name correctly.

I won't repeat myself here, because it would take quite a long time and I'd probably just wind up copying and pasting my own words, but you should check out the discussion that [livejournal.com profile] rebness and I are having on my journal. It might make you think about things differently. :-)

A 'stan' is a really rabid fan - its origin comes from the Eminem song "Stan". Becky and I were using it jokingly in reference to myself, I can assure you.
