Missing: Giant ball in the sky

I watched Super last night. We all thought it was a straight-up comedy along the lines of Kick-Ass. It's not. We were kind of traumatised by its unrelenting darkness but laughed hard. Liv Tyler, though. <3

So life is plodding along, being consistent and stuff. I'm still looking for change, but in an 'hey, it's autumn soon' way. I swear that I have not seen a clear, sunny day since June. It's been overcast for WEEKS now. I'm going to scream. I need sunlight, I need some gentle summer sun before we're consigned to the depths of winter again. This country, you guys! This tiny stupid island constantly covered in cloud, spat on by rain. I'll end up taking a cheeky break in Bulgaria or something when we get back from Russia because I NEED SUN.

Anyway, here's a reminder of when the UK actually does have sunlight in March-June. It's some snaps of my local church graveyard, which I've been meaning to upload forever. Going on the daffodils, I presume it's March. Anyway, Belfast next!

By daffodils, I assume you mean crocuses, lol :D

I love wandering through graveyards, as well. It's life-affirming in a weird way, to read how old some folk lived to be, then it hits hard when the next grave contains a child only a few years or even months old. I've been tracing my family tree for about six months now and have laughed and cried at discovering nuggets of information about my ancestors' lives. They were real people, not just names and that's the way graveyards make me feel.

Thanks for the photos. Which church is it?

Heehee. No, I meant daffodils but I ended up not uploading those pics because they didn't come out so well.

Exactly! I think that's why I love it. And the peace of graveyards, though they have to be old. Recent burials are too sad.

It's St. Mary's Church in Knowsley Village.

Thank you! <3

Absolutely beautiful photos. Thanks so much for sharing!! Makes me want to get back to the UK and Ireland to see it for realz this time, not just traipsing about London and pretending that's civilization. I loved Glasgow the last time I got to go there...I want to see more. The area around where you live is stunning.

One day, right? I'm hoping to get back abroad after I finish at Naropa. Maybe attend the London Jacques LeCoq school or something.

I hope you get some sun soon!

Gorgeous cemetery!

I wanted to watch Super but then I kept hearing about dark and odd it was and I don't know. :/

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-08-14 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
It really is lovely. I meant to take some photos when all the blossoms were out on the trees, but I'm an idiot and kept forgetting until the blossoms had gone!

It's... a very strange film. Very, very, very violent. Sometimes I laughed hard at it despite that, but it does take you to a dark place. I can't decide if I liked it or not.

One of my friends was all, 'I never, ever want to see that film again.'

Oh, I can understand that. People so rarely get to see the real England because they focus on London which to me just... doesn't feel like England. The centre of London, anyway.

So glad you got to see Glasgow, though. I love that city and Scotland's a beautiful place.

Love the boneyard. My little town has two that I like to walk in. Nice and quiet there. lol

They're such peaceful, beautiful places. I don't blame you!

The first picture is now my new wallpaper. I find it relaxing.

Glad you like it! Also, hey you! <3

Heh, I'm alive :P And pondering about a possible comeback. We'll see!

Hurrah! I hope so. :D

So there's still life after all on LJ? Because after the massive LJ fiascos of the last years I heard a lot of people have left. Anyway, most Italian users have left, and I'm telling you, it's a good thing: I'm sorry to say that, but a lot of them were just plain jerks. It was a flamefest every other day.

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-08-14 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, thankfully. There were some who moved to Dreamwidth and then some left because of the Russian buyout (which strikes me as a little xenophobic) but there are some great people here.

I'll trust you on the jerks! There are some great communities that have popped up - I think LJ is selling itself on community blogging more these days.

Any recommendations? I'm curious about what has been going on over here.

Depends what you're looking for, but here are three comms I really like:

talk_politics
photographers.livejournal.com
ontd_feminism (warning: can be a bit trollish)

And, of course, add_me if you're looking for some non-jerks. ;)

This is gorgeous! I also agree with Mum's sentiments. Cemeteries (maintained ones) are actually quite nice to stroll through.

So I went to read the Wikipedia summary of Super, as I frequently do with films that I'm not going to see but I want to know what happens. And it says: "Libby ends up raping Frank while the two are in costume. Going in the bathroom to vomit, Frank encounters a vision of Sarah in the toilet and decides that now is the time to rescue her from Jacques."

Okay then.

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yep.

It was played for laughs (I think) and I'm all 'so rape is funny now?'

It was -- oh my God, the entire film is so weird. And yet, still I laughed. Not at that scene, though.

We always need moar graveyard photos ~whoo

Thanks!

Yeah, I love them. I love the old architecture and the inscriptions and the relative peace of a graveyard.

*contended sigh* I do love a nice graveyard. Isn't the script beautiful on those headstones?

Looking forward to the Belfast pics - could you upload me a zipfile sometime, as I remember my camera batteries had died that day so I don't have pics myself!

Also, they've just published a very useful booklet guide to the cemeteries of Belfast; the PDF is here: http://www.belfastcity.gov.uk/cemeteries/cemeteriesbooklet.pdf
