I imagine that "La Haine" will be quite hard to get hold of in America, but if you can, do... it's a very good film, and stays with you.

As for Pirates... I personally thought that it looked like stupid Disney fare, but my friend dragged me along to see it-- it was the most fun I've had at the cinema since...since... the last time.

I'm surprised that you didn't like Akira, but each to their own... have you seen "Spirited Away"? I'm thinking of going to see that this weekend...
