Raised on a diet of broken biscuits

With these words, I was turned off the very idea of Misfits. A show about ASBO teenagers doing community service, where their chavviness was celebrated and with super!powers. Ugh.
And then the nagging began. 'You have to watch it,' screeched
mothergoddamn. 'It's more consistent than Being Human, with no George character!'
Yes, yes, I said. I'll watch it someday.
Then there was the advert I caught for it, a person hammering on his coffin six feet under, screaming obscenties and demanding to be let out. How dark and horrible and funny. Time to watch.
Well, for once in her life,
mothergoddamn was right. This is such a funny show, and with heart. The characters are deeply off-putting to begin with and most of them remain that way. The ultimate chav amongst them is actually the most endearing: she's a funny, violent person with a good heart. The dialogue is witty and doesn't shirk from portraying each and every character as both good and bad. I have never laughed so much as I have at certain fight scenes or one deeply horrifying carnal encounter.
Fantastic programme. And yes, more consistent than Being Human. I can't wait for the next series to start this week! :D
If you're interested in it, British viewers can watch on 4 on Demand. If you're outside the UK and want a taste of teenage Britain, you can stream it on SurftheChannel. If you can understand the accents.
