I was tricked into watching Oh, What a Lovely War today and was enjoying the satire. Which is when they decided to spring suprise!sadness on me with a depiction of the Christmas Day Truce between British and German troops. It's one of the saddest things in history and it gets me so angry because it demonstrates that those people dying in earnest still had humanity even in the trenches while the powers that be saw them as cannon fodder. All these ordinary men, caught up in a war that was just axis powers flexing their muscles in a nice little experiment which cost millions their lives.
And now my dad's telling me about when his grandfather had his lungs destroyed by mustard gas. :(
Pfft. I'm going to go and read about Cheryl Cole to cheer myself up.
