Little Otik is one of the craziest, most fun films I've ever seen. You should totally watch it. I'm also going to outmyself as a ~cultural philistine and say I prefer the American dub of Miyazaki's Howl's Moving Castle. Idek, Christian Bale is a good Howl for me.

House of Flying Daggers is one of my favourite films. Love the colours, romantic story and total cinematic flavour. i would love the chance to see it on the big screen. I also love crouching tiger, hidden dragon, but Flying Daggers is less cliche, more beautiful. Although the soundtrack in crouching tiger is totally moving...

Yes, completely agreed on HoFD vs Crouching Tiger. The ending is so beautiful, I loved it.

There's nothing wrong with any of the Miyazaki dubs, if you ask me. I love watching films in their intended language because you usually get a more honest translation (especially with Japanese, as I'm sure you know, because it's so nuanced) but I've never bee bothered by sitting in front of the TV and watching them on Disney (except when they cut stuff out and have 50 billion commercials).

I love Run Lola Run and of course, Amelie and Let the Right One In.

Yeah, definitely. I can't stand most dubs and I get what you're saying with Japanese -- plus the fact that some things just don't translate well at all (I also find this with Spanish films, so refuse to watch the dub) but I can handle it with Miyazaki. Whomever chooses the voice actors/script for the dub seems to do it very well.

There was also a line changed in HMC which I preferred in the dub but I suppose because it's a Welsh story originally, I don't get annoyed. I dunno, I'm rambling. But I agree with you.

I hate this question. Nothing needs an American remake! NOTHING. Especially films already in English, gaaah.

Anyway, I'm sure I told you about studying Run Lola Run in English class at high school, and the girl who after we'd seen it three times kept saying, 'Miss, I just don't understand it.' She wasn't talking about the language or the subtitles, she just... couldn't comprehend the plot. IDEK.

I love La Reine Margot. Actually, I love lots of these. But it's nice to see that mentioned.
