You Stupide Engleesh Pig-Dog!

Etc.

Today the weather defied its grey and murky habit of the week to give way to clear blue skies and intense sunshine. Glasgow was transformed by the sunlight-- blossoms on the trees, birds singing, the gentle lull of the lawnmower-- and various other summery nonsense.

Hence, a visit to the dramatic Scottish countryside was in order. We took in the picturesque town of Callender, the lochs en-route, the beautiful rolling hills of evergreen trees.

The highlight of the day, though, was a visit to castle Doune, just north of Glasgow. A castle is something of a spectacle, of course, but the very best part was this exchange:

Tour guide: It's £3.00 to get in... and if you have any questions, feel free to ask. You can learn about the history in the first room--

Becky: Good, good.

Tour guide: ... and do you know about the Monty Python thing?

Becky: Huh?

Tour guide: See that book over there... they filmed Monty Python and the Holy Grail in this castle.

Fetchez la Vache!

So, like, there was all this really cool history and stuff, all this wonderful architecture-- and I just had to race up to the top of the stairs and declare from the battlements, "Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!"

That, believe it or not, made my bloody day.

Ha, I love it. Also Hi. I've recently new to LJ and see that we have a bit in common, especially Carryondancing and now To the Moon. I can see this being a lot of fun. I just wanted to let you know that I added you to my friends list. Also, I like your vc fics very much.

Hey, there!

I just added you, too. :-D

Thanks for the fics compliment... I keep meaning to get back into writing, but, alas, that Carry on Dancing is so very addictive...heehee.

Yes, god I love it. I've followed it from the beginning, way before I got an LJ. By all means get back to writing. We need more vc fics!

How could i ignore this? Becky, I'm so freaking jealous :p Closest I've been to anything Monty Python is when i read that Terry Gillian or Jones had been.. near here. Once. When I was oblivious. And it was like 3 years ago. But still, I cling to that glimmer of fame. Yes. :D

I fart in your general direction.

LMAO!

I had to do it in heels! Well, boots-- I didn't realise the day would involve a castle...heehee.

Anyway, lots of tiny stairs and dark spots. It rocked.

Yee, and I only watched MP and the Holy Grail this Thursday (okay, to appease my son and I fell asleep halfway through, but I tried...)

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2004-05-02 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
Heehee... I watched it when we got back. They used the castle scenes for the part with Zoot and the evil ladies, the wedding banquet and the pallid singing prince as well as the French people. Every time I see that ending where they are arrested for the murder of the historian and it abruptly ends, I just crack up.

I'm hoping you at least got to Fetchez la vache, because, really...
