Remember that self-indulgent fic I posted last year, Moving On? You know, set after the events of QotD, Lestat and Louis travelling through Europe and village and castle and angst, etc, etc?

Well, the places in the fic were based on parts of the Massif Central that I travelled through and worked in, hence all the flowery description. I originally intended to post it with some pretteh pictures but, oh, you know... stuff happens. Photos get developed a year later. Eh.

Anyway, so

It's sod's law that I never seemed to have a camera on me when surveying a dramatic landscape or that amazing castle, but I did at least manage to snap some pictures of the town of Ruoms, where Lestat's shouting/maundering experience takes place.

Ruoms

Pretteh approach to pretteh Ruoms.

'Cos it is, right?

More Ruoms

The town looking all old and cool. Most of the buildings are in this style, dating back to the 1500/1600s, with fab little plaques detailing their history on a lot of the walls.

Scary

Some buildings looking intimidating

And also narrow.

Yeah

The village was full of somewhat claustrophobic, but cool arches and stuff.

Like this one. Um... most seemed to lead to restaurants or roof top gardens, though. I dunno... it sort of reminds me of the plague. I have no idea why. :-/

Vieux eglise

The old church.

What this photo cannot show you is the sheer atmosphere of this old stone church. This is the little church Lestat visits in the spec, and it's just beautiful inside. I actually had me a spiritual moment when I first encountered the church-- one door was ajar, and from inside came the most soothing, evocative choir. Which turned out to be a tape recording.

Oh, wow

Um...a window.

Alas! The only inside shot of the church that turned out. This was in a part set aside in memory of 'the martyrs of the revolution'. I have no idea.

Um...

And now for something completely different.

Like a cemetery. Also, with some of my thumb in the corner.

These are so beautiful! I remember that story...I think you should post it again with the pictures inserted. *nudge*

Ha! Don't tempt me! ;-)

I can't bear to read over most stuff once I finish it and set it free, because it usually makes me cringe. So...hmm... maybe a re-write and nice pictures coming up?

It all looks gorgeous!

And now I have an absolutely desperate need to go on holiday. France would be good, but really anywhere that isn't Worthing would do.

BTW- speaking of VC, fics, and holiday destinations...

Did you ever finish that Kefalonia set fic? I loved what you already had, and really did so appreciate actually knowing the place where it was set for once.

It's actually sitting on my computer, which isn't...uh...plugged in. Lol! But I do want to finish the fic, if only because there were some pretty decent scenes in there. I guess I'll have to go through it soon and finish it all.

And the Melissana lake... *dreamy sigh*

Beautiful pictures. I can see why the story was so inspired.

Awesomeness! It's, like, a story come alive! ;) What a gorgeous place.

I remember that fic. The photos are gorgeous. Lovely compliment to the tale.

Thank'ees.

I wish I had taken snaps of the other places, but at least it gives me a (somewhat flimsy) excuse to visit the place again. ;-)
