Discus Stu has Ouzo for Twozo...
So, Troy.
Man, I felt sick at work today. Like, reheaheally bleh. That did not stop me going in early so I could get away for the half past three showing of Troy, though.
Random non-spoiler thoughts...
Is it just me or is Sean Bean's broad Yorkshire accent a little disconcerting to hear when his character is supposed to hail from the Ionian islands?
I really, really, really did not like Odysseus. Give all the knowing smiles you want, mate... but perhaps venturing forth an opinion would get you further.
Cousins, cousins... Why was everyone promoted to cousin status? Is it really so shocking to imagine that Achilles you know, hung out with another man? Did Briseis really need so much prominence in the storyling when in The Illiad Achilles just lists her in a long line of grievances against Agammenon?
Dear God but Hector was just the best. I loved the emphatic, noble slant given to the character, and I think Eric Bana's performance was one of the very best of the film, if not the best. And, boy, he looked fine. So fine that I think we need a picture right about...here:
Worryingly, Orlando Bloom seemed rather attractive and also sympathetic despite his usual Legolas/Will Turner acting.
Brad, I adore you. Just...please. A little more expression. Though you were pretty damned cool in those fighting scenes.
Also, check out the pretty funny Guardian Gallery, where they attempt to figure out just who was responsible for the whole sorry mess. With pretty pictures.
All in all, thrilling, a good way to spend a couple of hours. Different to the bookpoem. Just what was expected, I suppose. I won't go into the spoilers, but waaaah and all that.

Brad in short skirt.
Brad in nothing.
However, aside from drool factor ~wiping chin~ I enjoyed this movie on other levels, I swear.
That one fight..and I'm not going to spoil it..was just..wow.
Eric was very good, I agree. Didn't care for The Hulk. This redeemed him, I guess you could say. heh.
Love the slide slow pics with comments. =)
Do hope you perk back up, dear.

I know, I really didn't like Bana in The Hulk. Didn't like The Hulk full stop. But he was just brilliant in this film. And also had these big brown eyes going on. Yum.

The whole Briseis cousin thing...that was one of the major things that really pissed me off. You know, aside from the whole, RAPE IS COOL, thing. That one really got me. And I will never ever buy that Helen was in love with Paris, or wanted to go with him, or blah blah blah. I like to give her more credit than Hollywood does as the simpering pampered bitch. "We can run away and live in the forest!" "You mean...not live in luxury? Umm...I mean...no, no, we can't do that...we have to, ah, stay here because, ah, our leaving will make no difference!"
Anyhoo, you know it wasn't as bad as SOME films as far as faithfulness to the original text goes :p

plus Helen of troy is a very interesting character, which was not portrayed at all well. She was an immortal and huge background story, they didnt even touch on her children. In fact Achillies got around an awful lot . In fact they left out Ahcillies son, who turned hectors wife into a concubine sired two sons with her and chucked Hectors son over the wall. They missed out the death of Paris. In fact the ending sucked it was all too much they escaped, when in fact they didnt.
i loved reading behind the legends after the film. but, i enjoyed it.
I am going to buy a book on #troy when i have the money, i love all the legends and characters.

Re: mmm ooh brainy
Andromache's father and brothers were killed by Achilles when he captured Thebe during the Trojan War; her mother was spared and ransomed, but died in Troy before its fall. During the seige of Troy, Achilles also killed her husband, Hector, and then desecrated his body. Andromache herself became the slave and concubine of Neoptolemus, Achilles' son, when Troy was captured; her son Astyanax was flung by the Greeks from the walls of Troy.
After the end of the Trojan War, Andromache was taken to Greece by Neoptolemus and bore him a son, Molossus, who gave his name to the Molossian people. Following Neoptolemus' death, Andromache married Helenus, one of the few surviving children of King Priam of Troy; Helenus became the ruler of the Greek region of Epirus.
