Finally, here is the first batch of my Rome pics. Enjoy! airiddh1, hope this is a nice teaser for Rome...
The requisite Alps picture.
At the foot of the Spanish Steps.
This is the view from (near) the top of the Steps, looking towards Via Condotti, the Gucci/Armani/usual suspects street o'd00m.
Roman street at night.
At the foot of the Spanish Steps is the little house where Keats lived and died. I couldn't resist snapping this opportunistically-named shop next to it.
The exterior of Keats' house, complete with a charming Nazi symbol. Me, neither. :|
There are worse places to die, I suppose.
Fascinatingly morbid sheet of paper on which Keats designed his own tombstone. The infamous legend "Here lies one whose name was writ on water" is at the bottom of the page. More on that in a later post...
Draft of Oscar Wilde's ode to Keats, with sexy signature at the bottom right corner.
This is the room in which Keats died of consumption TB. To the right of the bed is his death mask. Um... yeah. We theorised I'm small enough to fit on that bed, but I passed on trying it out.
And the last, picturesque view from that room. No wonder those Romantics were so melodramatic.
Well, that was a fun and not-at-all morbid start, wasn't it? Tomorrow: ze colosseum and all that stuff.
