Yes, exactly. It's depressing that so many generations of working-class people have gone by and all we have to show for it is misrepresentative fiction from the likes of Greene (though I do adore him)and Forster. I feel that the likes of Defoe, with their philanthropic works, are more authentic, but it honestly has become something that irks me in fiction. I feel that it is more because I accept my roots now and seek an authentic voice. I am still searching for it.
