Hahaha I love the Rubbish Book present. Thinking about it it's probably the one sort of present that would really rile me. Fair enough if you get me (as you say) something bland but inoffensive - oh, shower gel, thank you. But if someone knew that I liked football so got me a book about Spurs or Chelsea or something I'd bash them to death with it. It's not even the thought that counts because it just demonstrates how much somebody couldn't be fucked to even think properly.
