So, the Sunday papers reported that yes, Dubya’s planned visit to England is to go ahead, and yes, the protests are already being organised. In the most ineffably British manner, the protests will go thus: people are going to march up to the gates at Buckingham Palace, where Dubya will be staying, and, er, shout. Seeing as how Blair didn’t listen to nearly two million people when they marched on London to protest against the invasion of Iraq, this form of protest seems pretty tame.

Never let it be said that the British haven’t harboured revolutionary ideals akin to our fellow Europeans. During the Victorian era, disgruntled with the monarchy, a large crowd of Brits descended upon Buckingham Palace in order to overthrow the queen. Unfortunately, it started raining, so they all went home.

I think we have quite some way to go before we match the planned Thai protest-three hundred witch doctors gathered in Northern Thailand to lay a curse on Bush last week-but hey, it’s a start.
