Thou Shalt Not Worship False [Icons]

It’s the first of December. I fully expected some Christmas cards to magically appear on my doorstep. Instead, NatWest sent me a bill. Woe.
So, let’s consider something else today, kids. Today, I have mostly been angsting about my crappy icons. Someday, someone will write an etiquette book on the proper use of icons when replying, and that someone will probably be me. And my book will probably sell five copies, three of which will be to “World’s Crappest Books” museums, one by my mum and one by a crazy person who lives under the stairs.
But I digress. Here is an explanation of my three amazing icons. Why? Because I couldn’t think of anything else, that’s why:
Kirsten is the essence of Becky. She’s all, “man, I agree with you. This sucks. Also, I’ll just lie down now because I’m tired.” Kirsten is also waking up—literally—to see how cruel the world can be. However, she’s still young and she’s wearing a silly dress, so that’s okay.
Mr. Darko could be used to, say, express annoyance, fatigue, woe, anger, or just to agree that boys r teh pretty. Mr. Darko, has, thus far, been used for a range of things, from asking the vampires on carryondancing a question, to agree with
silverthoughts of the evil of maths and to urge
saffronlie to set Nordic monster Grendel on some Icelanders. He’s so very versatile.
Now, we take Hipolito of Amelie fame: without you, today’s emotions would be the scurf of yesterday’s. Great quote, right? Great film, right?
But what would be the etiquette for using said icon with people who may not necessarily have seen the film? Therein lies the rub. It’s an overblown, romantic quote—would people understand it without its given context?
Who, then, to use it with? Well, I’ve used it unabashedly with certain people on here who truly do mean a lot to me. Not all people on my Flist would get this icon. Then again, I’ve used it sometimes just for a change, or when I’m replying to something serious. That Hipolito: so very inappropriate.
Ho hum. I need a life.
