Land of Hope, sorta Glory

Dear Great Britain:
You have periodically been a pain in the proverbial. You're all rainy, with class barriers and boybands and all that murky history where you committed so many atrocities in the name of the people of these sceptred isles. You're obsessed with boobs and I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here, and deep-fried Mars bars, for feck's sake.
And yet, today, the Civil Partnership Act took a huge step towards equal rights for same-sex couples, bringing us in line with other European countries who have started to act to end this needless discrimiation. In these isles, where our chequered past so often holds us back, I am so, so proud of the UK and its people and this new law today. Granted, we still have some way to go, but still. Jolly good show, what?
Still not buying The Daily Mail or joining UKIP, though.
