Firstly, I have a gorgeous new layout, thanks to that fine, fine wench [livejournal.com profile] mothergoddamn. Thank you, fine wench.

So what's happened in the last week? Well, more teaching. Ring boy turned out to just want attention and was determined to go to any lengths to get that. So, after sitting the other students down with some colouring while he jumped about being annoying, I took him aside and asked him to read out some animal cards, praising him each time he got one right and helping him when he stumbled over the more difficult ones. Then when he finished writing the alphabet first, I heaped praise on him. I don't feel I overdid it, but he had stopped with the penetrating stares and was pleased as punch with his I'm Awesome sticker on his work by the end of the lesson.

Good times.

My next target is T____, who was very charming this week and showered me in the shavings from his pencils. We'll see how this one turns out.

I also met a really interesting American linguist type, who has been teaching some classes in another school. He's moving on to a full-time position somewhere else, and asked me if I wanted to sit in on some of his classes. I did so and was delighted when the adult lady in the final class, a Beatles fan, got really excited when she learned I was from Liverpool. She wanted to chat more, but it was 10pm by that time and we had to go.

Anyway, she asked if I could be her next teacher, so I have more work as from next week. Hurrah!

There is a place nearby called something like 'The Hill of the Wind', with all these wind turbines and sunflowers and dragonflies. We drove up there yesterday and went for a bit of a hike. It was absolutely gorgeous and of course, I forgot my camera.

I've been reading a lot as I am still waiting on some post from my mum with an adaptor for my fail!laptop. I hope to take lessons in Japanese from the middle of this month, so that'll be good. Especially as there was a very minor, but frightening, earthquake a few days ago. The kids all looked at me, eyes wide with fear. I am glad that they don't yet understand English swearwords, for I couldn't suppress a 'what the hell!' as the world rolled beneath us.
