I had two literary heroes growing up. The first was Brian Jacques, who wrote the Redwall series. He passed away this February.

My second hero? Diana Wynne Jones, author of Howl's Moving Castle and one of the few books I can read again and again, Dogsbody (which I have gone on about at length already on LJ several times). And she's passed away today. I'm absolutely gutted.

Rest in peace, Diana. You were amazing. You taught me so much about British history, Welsh culture, the stars and mythology and gave me such a love of language. You're going to be sorely missed. :(

2011 had really better not be a literary version of bonanza celebrity death year 2009. Grr!
