Tonsillitis.

The what-is-that-even condition. The 'everyone in school had it' condition. The abstract, unknown disease that has never struck me down. UNTIL NOW.

So this week has been fun. The fever segued nicely into this weird blister at the end of my tongue. It was pretty painful and I couldn't remember burning it the previous night, but ho hum. It'd be gone soon.

Well, eating got a little hard. See, my gums felt all tender. And my throat hurt in this weird way. My tongue also decided on a nice furry lining. And my breath went rancid.

After a couple of days where I consumed approximately 300 calories, in liquid form, I made an emergency appointment with the doctor. I got to see the nurse practitioner instead, who diagnosed herpes. HERPES? WTF, woman? The blisters maybe would point to that, but the furry tongue, my throat?

Anyway, Doctor!Aunt happened to visit that night and agreed that the nurse was an idiot and that it's tonsillitis. Which is all fine and good, except I can't treat it with much except painkillers and a nice explosion of mouthwash whenever I'm feeling particularly sadistic or disgusted by the taste of Illness. Will this ever end, flist? WILL IT? Have any of you ideas on ways to punish my mouth or hasten the end of this minging condition?

I would desperately love to eat more than 500 calories one day. And something other than yoghurt.

Also,  I temped for a housing company for a few hours on Thursday and Friday and attended a job interview. I had to find excuses to stay as far away from people as possible and answer with a closed-mouth 'mmmm' every time they came near me with advice. Hardc0re. Also, painful and sweaty. :(

Well - I suppose it's a positive that you're hungry - must mean that you don't have some god-awful systemic... thing. I suffered one bout of tonsillitis when? Oh about 10 years ago - so that would have been in my early 40's. Disease is not picky as to when it strikes.

I would suggest some kind of analgesic (duh), warm liquids even though swallowing must hurt like hell and warm salt water gargles as often as you like. Maybe throat spray to numb the area for like... 2 seconds of relief? Every little bit of relief is good. :P

Feel better quickly.

I think it was just because my mum cooked bacon this morning! Hahaha. I was a bit weirded out that my body wasn't rebelling at being fed so little, but I honestly have had no appetite. I dunt get it.

I've been refusing to try warm salt water thus far because I know it'll be an explosion of pain, but I think I need to do something! Throat spray sounds so awesome right now, ohmigod.

I just wanna be better! Do you ever get the paranoid feeling, halfway through an illness, that you're never, ever going to be normal again? D:

LOL... you need to ask that? Of course I get the paranoid feeling - not that I'll never be normal again - but that clearly, I am about to die. :(

Hahaha. <33333333333

I may have moaned out loud a few times this week that I'm going to die. But I was srsly worried about not eating in case I had a heart attack or something crazy! ;_;

I don't think you'll get anything serious not eating for a few days or even up to a week, if you still drink water normally. But maybe avoid driving if you're low on sugar, you don't want to loose concentration at the wrong time? hugs!!

Poor soul. Much sympathy for your throat/mouth. I lost an entire 2 weeks over Christmas a few years ago from the same thing. Salt water gargles, yes; plenty of liquid such as cooled boiled water or Lucozade if you can manage. Sorry, but you've just got to let Nature take its course. A human can survive without food for well over a month, just keep the fluids up.

That sucks. Anything involving my throat immediately turns me into a baby. When I cant swallow, its not good times.

I hope you get better soon, tonsilitis sucks. I used to get strep throat a lot as a teenager and I remember how awful it was. At least you're home and not in a foreign country though. Being sick away from home is even more of the pits.

*hugs*

Aww poor bb. That sucks, in a totally awful and non-vampire way. Sadly I don't really know how you punish your body for hurting you, or I would totally do it so very often.

But well, if you're home-ridden and get bored and wanna talk to someone to kill time, I'll be hovering round msn while I cook. Vegetables. Many of them. I is slave. And I can totally spam your mind with inane American musical comedy shows. 8D

Poor monkeyslut :( I 'sort of' had tonsillitis a few years ago (struck down 2 weeks before Glasto oh noes!) It came on pretty suddenly, doc said it was like tonsillitis but wasn't tonsillitis. Okay. My dad tried to get me to gargle salt water and IT NEARLY FINISHED ME OFF! Coulda whacked him round the head for giving me the stuff, it closed my throat up for what felt like ages and i couldn't breathe hence making it worse :(
Anyway the doc put me on... i think it was penicillin? Something that starts with a P anyway and that seemed to eventually get rid of it enough that i was okay to go to Glasto still.

Hope you feel better soon MS xxx

I once had a chest infection that migrated up to my mouth. My gums were, like, black? It was gross. And I could not eat at all because I had no sense of taste and nothing was appetising. I was only about 11, so my mother freaked, but I survived. You probably need to be a bit more careful, depending on how much weight you lost in Japan, so drink a lot of fluids including calorific ones like fruit juice. Smoothies and other blended drinks would help, and ice cream will be soothing but also delicious.

Hope you feel better soon :(( Last time I was on death's doorstep-sick, pretty sure I had tonsillitis and possibly bronchitis or something (pus all over tonsils, red inflamed swollen etc etc) but I refused to go to the doctor. I pretty much lived on extremely salty noodle soup and lemon tea made with manuka honey, which is supposed to be antibacterial and effective. I'm not sure if it helped but I'm still alive so maybe xP

I also like to chew on those hard strong licorice dimes and get the saliva flowing which helps.
