EVERYONE KEEPS SAYING I AM THIRTY. I am constantly having to give friends and relatives the If I died right now, my gravestone would say I was in my twenties rant.

I am not dealing with this well.

I was listening to my favourite trashy song Acceptable in the 80s tonight. My older brother was in the room.

See, he'll do things for you if you were born in the eighties, the eighties.


Me: Hey, Paul! Calvin Harris doesn't have hugs for you.
Paul: He barely has hugs for you.
Me: HE DOES! HE DOES! TWO WHOLE YEARS OF HUGS 


This is unbearable. I obviously need counselling. D:

The coming of Thirty was very hard for me. Fortunately I was on my way to Colorado when it came so it kind of got lost in the trip. I didn't mind that at all.

So, I know I've teased you incessantly about your concerns over turning 30 but now I shall be serious.

My thirties were by far the best decade EVER! (Forties weren't so bad either). The thirties were the best because I knew much more than I'd ever known before (age breeds wisdom and all that) but I still had enough youth to 'kick ass' with the best of them.

Personally, I breezed through 30 and beyond. 50? Not so much but hey, I can still kick ass if I take a nap before doing so. :P

It's just a number. I personally would like to make it to 60 in seven years time. I no longer worry about my current age, I just want to live a few more thank you. *g*

Well if you are to be anywhere when you reach 30, Paris is a good a place as any. Have a good time!

I honestly loved turning 30...it was made of win. I'm about to be 33 and this decade so far has been 1091848times better than my twenties. I'm finally coming into my own and loving it. I'm always excited about the passing of another year, especially when good things have happened in the prior year. Its not perfect but turning 30 was great for me : )

Thirty hit me hard, too -- I hadn't ever really imagined myself as An Adult, and thirty just seems like such an incontrovertibly grown-up number that I found it really hard to wrap my head around it. But now that I'm 11 months deep into this first year of my thirties, I can tell you that nothing essential changes, except for good stuff, that is. I found, as others have commented, an easier, quieter sense of confidence and a clearer sense of myself, who I am as a person, and what matters to me. This had a lot to do, also, with the fact that I became a mother and a wife in very short order during my later 20s, and I think that those events tend to realign one's perspective; for me, that realignment was just solidifying as I hit thirty, so the events combined to mark a sort of phase-shift in my outlook on the world and my view of myself.

I can't pull all-nighters like I used to and a lot of my too-wild excesses have tapered off, but aside from those changes I honestly feel like I'm more truly myself now than I ever was during my twenties, and that really isn't such a bad feeling to have after all. :)

Oh I know the feeling. 30 is nearing for me too. Oddly enough though this last year or so I've become less freaked out about growing old. I think it was when I discovered my first grey hair (yup, a grey hair at 27. I wasn't impressed) it then hit me that 'this is gonna happen. Deal with it.'
So I've accepted that I will grow old, but truthfully I'm never going to grow up. You're as young as you feel in your heart, and my heart is always going to be 21.

I feel your pain. I am also on the run from major mortality freakouts, trying hard not to think about oblivion and the passage of time and impermanence...

But anyway, I'm 33, and my 30s have been good to me so far. I'd echo everyone else re. feeling more comfortable in one's own skin. I am much more who I am now, which includes reopening and celebrating stuff that had been blocked off before. I encompass a lot more contradictions, and I'm more myself and more at peace because of it. And I know stuff now that I simply couldn't before. So far, it's turning out to be a really good decade - I hope it will be for you too! <3

OK, the way I cheer myself up about aging is thinking of 80-something wrinkled old ladies who do great stuff and look classy! I think of Tove Jansson who still went out to her desert island and took the boat out in her 70s, Leonora Carrington who still paints, lives alone in Mexico in her 70s or 80s etc... etc... If I'm lucky enough to reach 80 and be only halfway like them, I think the wrinkles will be OK :) I think the romantic cliche that you have to do something brilliant before 20 and then you're dead is real damaging shit, because most people don't do anything brilliant before 20, or even at all. Do something meaningful in a lifetime is probably a more constructive aim.
