I actually got halfway through Diary and then got interrupted by life. I think I'm going to try and finish it this weekend. ;)

God, Grace... you have to read guts! It's got that usual sick attention to detail, the fun narrative, but urgh it's just horrid. Particularly when the accompanying interview revealed it was a true story... :-|

Yes - I could have gotten through life without that bottom-of-the-pool nightmare scene, let alone anything else. I finished it and put the paper down and instructed the beloved and parents "Do Not Read That. Don't even think of reading it."

Regarding the pool scene: I was sitting there squealing in disgust... you can't even begin to explain it, can you? Lol!

It took me right back to my early teenage when I read the whole output of James Herriot. I never forgot the story of the cow with the prolapsed uterus, and that was just a uterus! Eurghhhh... It drives you do your pelvic floor exercises though!

OMG! *I* had a phase reading James Herriot's entire oeuvre too, although actually I think I got tired of all the bleating sheep and bleeding cows and stopped short of the last few. I totally remember the prolapsed uterus and I think I was even too young to really realise what the uterus did and why it's such a bad thing to be prolapsed. Grossness. And those graphic descriptions of soaping his hands to go right up a cow or sheep...

Okay, not-so-famous link here: James Herriot's son Jimmy used to be our vet and his daughter Rosie was my doctor. We still use the phase 'womiting bad' [pace a famous farmer with his pukey dog] whenever les enfants have a gastric bug.

Have just finished Chuck's "Surviver." it was...hmmmm.
