^^ What you both said. See, I adore Christmas, but every year I'm the one doing more and more of it. I have absolutely no objection to this considering that the stuff that needs doing (list-making, catalogue shopping and covering things with glitter) happens to coincide with what I'm good at and what I enjoy. And if you enjoy a holiday so damn much, you should contribute. None of that do I have a problem with.
But we pressurise ourselves and each other to enjoy it, to participate in certain ways... and women in particular, I think, are very prone to the whole "doing too much" thing. We try too hard to keep other people happy... I had some particularly daft conversations with Mum as we tried to work out whether certain cards might hurt particular peoples' feelings for various complex-yet-obvious-if-you-knew-the-situation reasons.
Now, I know there'll come a point on Christmas Eve when we'll sit down exhausted and just watch a bit of telly, and after that it'll be great (barring Kathleen v. Sophie bitchfest on Xmas Day... which could in itself be entertaining!). But every year I tell myself I'll get what needs done finished long before that, and every year it doesn't happen. Hmmm.
