Well,
![[profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Anyway, here are my first three, for anyone interested:
Beginnings
I loosened my hold on him, my victim, feeling the smooth lapels of his coat slide through my fingers. I barely heard his question as he fell to the ground: “But who are you!”
I didn’t answer. He slept; weak from drink and blood loss. And it was such a perfect night; my first strike in claiming him as mine. I decided to remember that question, and how it was full of wonder even though his speech was slurred and his heart stuttered.
It pains me that even now, years later, I want to ask him that very same question.
Teammates
Crosswords. They’re pointless. Unnecessary. I shouldn’t have started this one, but I can’t let it win. “Damned thing!”
Louis glances up from his book, continuing to absentmindedly rub my foot in his lap. “Need help?”
“Eight letters,” I say, “Erinaceus Europaeus.”
“Hedgehog.”
I shake my head at him. “How did you know that?”
“Books.”
“You should get out more.”
“You gallivant enough for both of us.”
I snort. “I’m returning you to the store. This wasn’t what I had in mind for a companion.”
He smirks. “I wouldn’t be so sure.”
“Hush, you. And give the other foot some attention.”
Air
“Are you cold, Louis?” he asks.
“No, I’m fine.”
He raises his hand to my cheek. “Liar.”
“Lestat!” I gasp, “Losing your grip on me in mid-air worries me more!”
He snorts. “Are you afraid?”
“No.”
But do I trust him? I don’t know. I know he’s changeable. I know he’s cruel. It’s madness, to put myself at his mercy. Why do I do it? I shouldn’t trust him, when up here, in the cold, lonely night, he alone protects me from plummeting to the ground, to almost certain death.
A cold thrill runs through me. I clutch him closer.
