So I'm walking through Liverpool city centre with three lads around my age as the sun sets on a beautiful Saturday. The following conversation happens:

Friend #1: Where should we go to, then? Alma de Cuba? Revolution? The Tea Factory?
Friend #2: Oh, yeah! I could really do with a pot of Assam tea.
Becky: The hell?
Friend #1: I'm getting Earl Grey.
Friend 3#: English Breakfast.

And all I could think was, I hope they have mint tea there.

I was far too excited at my pot of tea. I enjoyed the following dinner party too much. I enjoyed talking about mortgages and science and Japanese lessons. I don't recall exactly when the spectre of middle-class, middle-age values started creeping up on my social group, but it's rather alarming that I'm grateful to be able to cast off the clubbing for wine-tasting and parlour music. It's so much more civilised, sweetie darling.

There was whisky in your tea, wasn't there.

Unfortunately, no.

AND. And, right? I had wine that night. ONE GLASS. And I stopped to sniff and appreciate its heady aroma. I enjoyed the buttery feel of the expensive white wine we shared, and I commented on it rather than just reaching for another bottle. Waah.

LOL. I just took a bath with a glass of wine and a Nick Earls novel. It was heaven. Overshadowed a bit by the fact that the wine was labelled "Classic Dry White", but it's a decent drop and at least it didn't come from a box. We just have about a dozen bottles of it left over from the party at the weekend. Also a few bottles of champers, but you can't just open one of those for one glass of indulgence. Dammit.

I always sniff my wine but am endlessly frustrated because I CAN'T SMELL ANYTHING. Am trying to train my nose, but my nose sucks.

I have a really poor sense of smell, but this wine was really heady. I'll have to get the name of it - I can't remember which country it came from. Pete said it was the last of this year's batch, though. Sux0rs.

I love the book-and-wine bath, even if my book always ends up splashed with water. Or wine. Or both.

So do you like the really complex wines? I much prefer fresh, light flavours. Of course, most Australian white wine is like sunshine in a bottle. Or, the ones I drink are. ;) MMM, sunshine. And, you dork, even *I* can be co-ordinated in the bath, so I dunno what your problem is. Especially since you take baths so often.

Yeah, but I'm a notorious klutz. I've fallen in stupid ways all over the world. I'm liek a travelling circus, so the bath is the least of my worries. ;)

Ah, see. I'm more of the velvety persuasion for wine. I like my whites buttery and my reds full-bodied, hence why I usually stick to Italian wines or a good claret.

And why I enjoy sparkling wines so much. Ah, good times.

We're like chalk and cheese! :(

(Though, in desperate times, I will quaff anything. Annnnnnything.)

you know <lj user = jaffacakequeen. has tried really hard to get me to appreciate wine - but it doesn't work! I still like my fizzy sparkly strawberry stuff! Speaking of which - I could just go a glass or 3

Sometimes, wine and bitterness and books is the very antidote to modern life. *Toasts Bernard*

Wow, I so need a wine-and-Black-Books-night with [livejournal.com profile] jaffacakequeen soon. >:)

Can I go clubbing and wine-tasting and still be civilised *mwah mwah*?

To add to the discussion: I like cabernet-sauvignon. All the time. And merlot (sex wine). Because I'm a h0r for the red. New Zealand actually has some GREAT white wines this year :D

New Zealand sauvignon blanc is the best. THE BEST. *dreams of the two bottles of Giesen Marlborough at home* I bet my mother drinks them without me! LOL.

You can drink cab sauv with my Dad. We've got lots of that left over, too. ;)

It goes really well with veggies!

Sure, I'll just come right on over and introduce myself to your dad. "Hi, I'm here for the wine. Drink up, mate!"

Well, obviously, I would be there to facilitate the actual introduction. ;)

Merlot! I forgot about that. Ooh, baby. Yeaaaah.

I can't stand German wines, though. They make me want to scream. Sometimes I do.

Good. We can be winos in NE :D

One should never scream with wine in their mouth, no matter how bad it is. Talk about uncivilised. *mee hee*

So my dastardly subliminal messages have worked then?

Drink the tea...drink the tea...have a cuppa...have a cuppa

Now the tea I can understand but you *enjoyed* talking about mortgages???

Talking of tea, I found this article quite funny:

Could be just me though!

Tea is good. :D I love the idea of a tea factory; it sounds like such a serene and excellent place to visit and to quaff tea in. (I think everyone should make sure they do things in a manner that sounds olde-worldy, even if that means they 'quaff' Tizer or their McDonalds McSlurry... McFlurry... whatever the milkshakes are called.)

Btw, did my parcel ever turn up with you?

Ooh, God! It did, Ang! And I was so thrilled (especially at the Giacomo thing) and I keep meaning to e-mail you with thanks and I'm hunting for you on MSN and you're not there and I love you <3

We're like Romeo and Juliet! Tragic star-crossed internet lovers who seem destined never to occupy the same virtual space at the same time! *wails*

Tell you what! I'll try and hang around online a bit longer tonight, say til ten. I've been on in the evenings a fair bit this week anyway, owing to having found lots of cool Lego sites. I can show you the delights of Castle Lego! *maniacal gleam*
