Ever since the familia Castro took off with our TV set, Hannah and I don't watch television, mainly because we can't. It has had little impact upon our lives, admittedly.

When I first embarked upon my month-long English hiatus, I was confident that although I don't have the internet at home, I do have my lovely gardens, my dogs and my beloved book collection. Therefore, television could continue staying out of my life.

I lasted three days.

Since finding a Black Books or a Peep Show amongst all those My Families and My Hero programmes is like finding a needle in a haystack, I have instead taken the easy option and opted for those daily reruns of American programmes. These are my daily companions:

Frasier
Frasier is like a fine wine, accompanied by the most lovingly crafted cheese. Unfortunately, just as too much wine and cheese may give one gout, I have had to limit myself to two servings daily of Frasier, given that my back is now spasming from all that cringeing.

Everybody Loves Raymond
Now, this one seemed like an easy show to resist. The title is annoyingly self-assured. The format is tired. And yet, Raymond and his clan have grown on me, kind of like mould but funnier. I love Raymond.

The Nanny
This is about some nanny or something. I think it's called the Nanny -- I only ever catch it halfway through, when escaping Jeremy Kyle.

America's Next Top Model
I swore I wouldn't become addicted to this show, but it's just so bitchy! I love it. Tonight (6pm, alarm set on television), They All go to London and Kim Gets Found out for Being Bitchy. It's a date!

I have no idea how old this season of Top Model is. I presume somebody won a loooong time ago. I could wiki it to see who won, but that would spoil the anxious bitchfest. And then I found out Everybody Loves Raymond ended. How long ago? Who knows! Life without the internet and Wikipedia is chaotic and unpredictable.
