Like that giant shot of Lestat's crotch. QotD went places no mere prequel dared. :P

Nice to see some love for Terminator 2. I think the reason T2 works is that (aside from the obvious, now traditional, Terminator Big Truck Chase), it doesn't try to duplicate the original in tone or style. It's a big, overblown action/adventure movie rather than a small, taut suspense-horror film like T1, and that's usually what people criticise, but it does its thing ten times better than any other big overblown action/adventure you can name.

Agreed. An action movie can be an awesome movie *because* it's both awesome and stuff blows up. Die Hard for example.

I have such a guilty live of the Die Hard movies. Die Hard 3 completes me.

I completely agree. I tend to be one of those who snootily dismiss big budget action-adventures, but I adore Terminator 2. It's thrilling, well-paced, fun and scary. I adored it as a child and I love it now.

I've probably seen it more times than any other movie (or it's neck-and-neck with Interview), and I'm really happy that it still holds up for me.

I get excited whenever it's on TV.

Actually, I think I'm going to stream it tonight. I really do love that film.

(We so need to have a watch together sometime!)

Queen of the Damned is the Best Sequel Ever Made, no doubts. Think of all the wtfness it produced. I'm still not quite over it.

Very much agreed re: Terminator and Godfather and TS.

I went to London to see it on its first night. With the composer for the movie. And a load of other fans.

We were all: WTF WTF WTF in the middle of this cinema.

...It was pretty epic.

...so at the end, the composer's looking round at you all with an expectant smile and you have to say something like, "Lovely.... er, music!" and then run like hell?

As far as I can recall, we all went to a restaurant afterwards... and slagged it off. Hahahaha.

We did say we liked the music, though (even if not quite what Rice had in mind for Lestat) and we did. I still really like the soundtrack. :D

You like Toy Story 2 better than the original? I must disagree. And disagree on The Godfather as well. But hells yeah for Terminator 2. I love The Empire Strikes Back like 50x more than Star Wars and I like The Two Towers better than The Fellowship of the Ring. I'm sure there's more but I havent had coffee yet.

Ha, I think Toy Story 2 and Godfather II are almost universally acclaimed, but I like that you stick to your guns. :D

I want to see your list!

From: [identity profile] mcgarrygirl78.livejournal.com
Yes, they are but so are the first films.

IDK, I dont think I have a list I dont often see movies that have sequels except the stuff I liked as a kid like Star Wars and Alien and stuff. And I often dont find sequels to surpass their originals except in special circumstances, like how Empire had much more Vader than the original, and of course Billy Dee Williams, which made it an instant classic with all the kids in the hood.

Aliens! That's one I meant to mention earlier. It's like with the Terminator movies; the sequel is a big brash movie, but that complements the earlier one rather than trying to steal its thunder.

From: [identity profile] mcgarrygirl78.livejournal.com
I saw Aliens first, and I was like nine. It was the most awesome thing ever! I didnt see Alien until I was in my 20s and they was like 2 completely unconnected films with one character in common but both amazing and fantastic in their own way. No one does screaming in 70s horror like Veronica Cartwright.

All this and I hate James Cameron but boy do I love some of his sequels.

Date: 2011-07-01 09:56 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com
Yeah, definitely, but generally those two sequels are heralded as better than the first films.

That doesn't mean it's right, though. Obviously the first ones speak to a lot of people more.

So agreed on Empire, though!

I'm not a DeNiro fan so I didnt really care for Godfather Part 2, and honestly I dont even remember the plot of Toy Story 2, the first one was so magical, new, and amazing and the 3rd one is so fabulous, I honestly have no idea what happened in the second one.

Hahaha, I may actually really for reals like QotD better than IwtV. They're both full of so much wtf, but I like Stuart Townsend better than Tom Cruise and I have a massive hate-on for Brad Pitt as Louis, so idk idk. Plus QotD had an awesome soundtrack?

Date: 2011-07-02 06:11 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com
Hahahaa. I think Townsend looks more Lestat and I despise Brad Pitt as Louis (I don't get why he gets so much praise! He was like a zombie in that film and didn't get the character at all).

I also really, really like the QotD soundtrack.

So... huh. I don't despise it as I used to. I guess I just look upon it as entertaining crack!fic.

I also have a soft spot for QotD because I probably wouldn't have gotten into fandom without seeing that movie and going "wait, I don't think it was like this" and rereading the books and then going "hey, I heard there was this thing called fanfic, I bet I could find some for VC! :D :D :D"

"I think Townsend looks more Lestat "

Would you like my glasses? I know Tom Cruise had a really dodgy blonde wig, but he did get away with it, just... but Townsend's like a lost irish setter in leather pants.
