So after shenanigans in Greece and being obsessed with the amazing new Chinese takeaway nearby and my boring desk job where stulching on biscuits and carrot cake is the only way to alleviate the monotony (well, that and writing slashfic in wordpad), I could feel the creeping weight. You know what I mean, the clothes feeling a little bit snug, the puffy face... capped by the scales giving me a nice surprise!reading.

Hell, no. I will not go back to my pre-Japan weight. Besides, if I'm having to jump through so many hoops just to get to Russia, then I'm making sure I'm not tearing up every photograph I'm in.

So it's been back down to the 1300kcal extravangza for me. It was a struggle to eat as many calories as that in Japan. In Europe, it's a struggle to eat anywhere as little as that a day. One stupid little sausage roll: 320kcal. A portion of chips = out, unless I want to eat nothing but an orange for the rest of the day. Hmph. I have miso soup (18kcal!) when I feel peckish between my tiny meals and I'm eating a lot more fresh fruit and vegetables, yay.

Let me tell you, internets. It sucks being 5'2 and small-boned. If I so much look at a piece of cake, I balloon.

On top of that, I've been cycling daily .Sometimes it's as little as two miles, but it's uphill so I'm all cursing and angry by the time I've finished. And the scales are all, 'well done! You've lost 7lbs in the past two weeks!'

1. Ridiculous and ~unsafe~

2. It can't be muscle, right? I'm not starving myself (1300kcal isn't starving) and my legs feel all strong and stuff

3. Water weight, right? But if it is, it's still weight that shouldn't be there and I really do have a problem with water retention. So fuck you, water. I'm claiming my 7lbs. And stay out.

Being 5'2" and !??! stone myself, I understand where you're coming from. Tragic we are both too short!

When do you leave for Russia? Where will you be visiting? I have never been, although my mother has Belarussian penpals courtesy of playing host for teachers who accompany children here (Chernobyl Children charity), I'm just being nosy :)

It's just so annoying. We shorties have to be so careful!

[livejournal.com profile] airiddh1 and I are going mid-September. We're going to visit Moscow and then get the overnight train to St. Petersburg to spend a few nights there. W00t!

I want to explore alll of Russia and the surrounding area. I want to do the train journey to Vladivostock and, oh yes, see Belarus and Ukraine and all those other countries. One day!

I'd love to help out with the Chernobyl children. It's such a good cause.

I'd be wary of having more than 1 bowl of miso a day, high in sodium and all. Unless you have a low sodium paste. :)

I'm currently scary!weight but when I'm being healthy I still have cake and chips, just in much teenier portions. Not quite the same but better than broccoli ;)

It generally is only one a day, ngl. I don't have much salt in my food as a rule and never season anything except chips with salt, so I'm careful. :D

Yeah, I try not to deny myself anything because it makes me abandon the diet. The only thing is I pop a chip in my mouth, think, 'fuck this! I could be eating twenty cucumbers for this!' and spit it out. Hahhaa. Thankfully, I love eating cucumber with chilli flakes. >:D

Everything's better than broccoli. :(

Woo, you're leaving for Russia? That sounds exciting! Good that you're going soon, too: a Russian friend of mine told me how those nice fellas from the mafia are tearing down the old buildings in the historical quarters, for the sake of cementification!

Clearly you need to be treated to a nice Mediterranean diet.:D Sausages and chips aren't proper summery food. Try cold pastas, chicken salads and carpaccio! I could give you some easy-peasy recipes.

I am so excited about it! But boo to cementification! Ruining Europe's amazing cities since c1950. :(

Send the recipes, bb! If anyone knows how to make gorgeous food, it's Italians. XD

LOL, me too I've gained weight eating insane amounts of ice cream while being so stressed last month.

One safe diet tip: don't know the technical word in English but it is that part of oats that is not the grain proper but the sort of skin around it that has the protein in it. I buy bags of it in organic shops in France and they probably have it in the UK except I don't know the proper word. It's got protein and fibres, so very good in itself, it's got a pleasant oat taste but not too stong so you can put it in anything without wreaking the taste, and it absorbs water a lot, so it prevents you from feeling hungry. They say 3 large spoonfuls a day. I put in in yoghurts but you can put it in anything that has water in it.

Aww, bb. I really hope things have settled down for you now. <3

That sounds really good -- I like the idea of using that. I generally think oats are amazing for healthy eating, anyway. What's the word for it in French? I'll take a look around.

'son d'avoine' I googled and it may be 'oat bran' but I'm not sure. It's the skin round the grain anyway.

Thanks! I'm going to take a look and see if they have it in Holland & Barratt!

1300 kcal really isn't much if you're doing vigorous exercise though (a two miles on a bike up a hill is totally vigorous). If you're not eating enough, your body won't burn fat. It will hold onto it for dear life. /lecture of stuff you surely already know

More fruit and veggies is good though. I'm trying to do that.

Why are you going to Russia? I want to go to Greece. And Russia. And England.

Oh, yeah, I totes know and you're completely right. I promise it'll get more sensible once I get past the next couple of lbs. But I do think my body's loving the fresh vegetables!

I'm just really interested in the Russian language, its culture and art. I've been meaning to go for some years but it's one country I don't fancy going to by myself, so I jumped at the chance when [livejournal.com profile] airiddh1 suggested it. If I could just travel for the rest of my life, I would.

I highly recommend Greece. >:D

Good luck with the weight loss. Seven pounds in two weeks is GREAT. *applauds*

I struggle with the weight all the time. Stupid anorexic culture.... 1300 calories--it's ridiculously hard to eat that little. I was trying to do that before I got ill, and it's like, you can snap and have one candy bar and get that many calories in that one thing.

And dare I ask--what's a sausage roll?

The cycling is brilliant; apart from the weight loss, you'll be so fit for all the sight-seeing! :)

Remember to keep up your water though bb, especially with all that exercise. And maybe eat less miso, so the salt isn't adding to water retention? Ah, what do I know. My diet is yoghurt and muesli plus chocolate.
