I dug out a DVD of ace Spanish cartoon from my childhood days, Dogtanian. This funky programme was an adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' D'artagnan, only cooler. With animals. And the voice actors having to speak reallyreallyreally fast to keep up with the Spanish animation.
It got me searching online for some information on it, and, lo and behold, I am across this most excellent site.
Not only do we get the usual nostalgia and the very true rantings about how the kids' programmes of the eighties are inherently superior to today's fodder, but we get clips! Pictures! Theme tunes! Everything's there-- from Dungeons & Dragons to The Raccoons to the infuriatingly long and ugly series Ulysees. In particular, I've fallen in love with The Mysterious Cities of Gold all over again. What a great series... I always wanted me a magic flying robot eagle.
Did anyone ever see the last episode of Mysterious Cities of Gold? Can anyone tell me what happened? I was probably in detention or fighting with my sister that day or something.

Cat! You have to go and listen to the tune...
Memories/light the corners of my mind...

also can't remember if it was slashy or not, damn! And I wanted to be in Dungeons and Dragons
pretty sure that was pure slash tooI actually watched Danger Mouse last night, did you know that half the time when Penfold calls Danger Mouse "DM" it sounds like he's calling him "Dear"- but then we always knew they were gay :)
And is this reminding anyone else of the great british institution of 'lets-talk-about-kiddies-tv-shows-whilst-drunk-and-down-the-pub'?

When I got the Dogtanian DVD, my 28-year-old brother could barely contain himself! He was all, "Man! I have to watch these!"
Dogtanian is very gay. Aramis is the gayest in it, though.
No gayness in Cities of Gold... except maybe those two Spanish sailors who always managed to run off and find a dark corner somewhere... ooh, suits you, sir!

Date: 2004-06-18 10:45 am (UTC)Dogtanian and Cities of Gold were European productions, so probably not exported to America, although Cities of Gold seems to have American fans, so maybe that was shown? It's quite an old cartoon now-- bloody hell! -- 22 years!
I feel. So. Old.

Date: 2004-06-18 02:40 pm (UTC)Now, for really good stuff, you need the 70s - in approximate date order: The Herbs, Noggin the Nog, The Magic Roundabout, Bagpuss, Ivor the Engine, Paddington, Rhubarb and Custard and the one with Noah and Nellie.
Long live the memory of Oliver Postgate (or is he still alive?) Them were the days!

Bagpuss was pretty cool, though. A guy in my glass had that same mournful face.

The only thing it doesn't have is Belle And Sebastien, which also rocked. But... oh my. I will probably waste indecent amounts of time at that site. And DVDs!!!
Right, that's my happiness sorted for the rest of the weekend then. :-)
