Arrgh. ARRGH. In the office today, the radio kept giving updates on the 2004 American elections. Which was pretty rubbish, considering half of America wasn't up yet and thus polls were negated throughout the morning.

Sky News puts the current exit polls at Bush 51, Kerry 48. BBC News does not make any predictions...yet.

The suspense is terrible. It feels so horrible having to sit at home powerless whilst people a continent away basically decide the world situation for the next four years. I just hope to God that they vote right.

I know that this post is rather useless on a Friends list where I think 99% of the Americans on it are Democrats, but still...arrrgh.

What bullshit for them to give updates like that. It is only 2:30 in the afternoon here in mid America. I just voted. Most will vote after work. The west coast has barely started.

I know! It's so bloody depressing... even the American pollsters are saying it's too early yet. Here's hoping...

I voted a few hours ago and this sitting around on tenterhooks is giving me such anxiety. So much depends on the outcome, and I am at a loss as to how anyone can actually think W. should be re-elected...yet, the polls show that they are dead even.

OTOH, I have to wonder how accuate those stupid things are, and are the pundits taking the youth vote into account? Accounts I am hearing are saying that the youth vote is turning out in more numbers than they have seen before.

It's agonizing, all right. *bites nails*

The suspense is terrible. Am trying so hard not to count on those polls, because, as [livejournal.com profile] rueroyale points out, too many people are yet to cast their votes... but, dear God... the outcome could be too awful to contemplate.

*crosses fingers*

I know, last night my drama teacher was all, "have we heard anything?!" but since it was only early morning in America, no. Then we discussed whether the bin Laden tape was a fake and how modern democracy is a lie. Good times, good times. I've turned on the morning television but they're only talking about yesterday's Melbourne Cup or something.

I totally went to the wrong university. :p

That wasn't at university. At university today Tolkien geeks argued about where Bilbo got Sting. I'd say you went to the right one.

I'm right with you on this. I've felt stressed all day, so goodness knows what States folk feel like. So many serious, life-changing things hang on this decision.

Yet I just daren't get my hopes up. We have to hold our breath and pray enough people vote for a change.

I know-- I can't stay up tonight, because I have a depressing day of number-crunching and contacts to make tomorrow, but if I dream of scary apes, I'll know why.

Just think-- we're going to wake up tomorrow and find out who is going to rule us for the next four years. Well, unless it goes like the last election.

I daren't get my hopes up, either. Am retaining an air of cynicism and pessimism in the hope I'm proved wrong.

That was the joke after the Australian federal election. "Of course, the real decision about who gets to rule Australia for the next few years won't be decided until the US presidentential election!" It's funny because it's true.

Well, it seems that Bush is going to be President again. The only hold up is Ohio, which is too close to call. They are still counting votes there. However, Bush is ahead by about 100,000 votes in that state right now.

Its sickening. Its horrifying. And I am totally speechless.
