It would be cool to try out that voice thing on LJ, but I'm not too sure... for some inexplicable reason, I feel the voice thing is more personable than a photograph posted online. What on earth would you Americans or Aussies expect me to speak like? Would it make you judge me more as a person, based on my dialect?

I guess you Brits are pretty aware of what my accent would sound like, except for the part where it's such a mish-mash of various accents now that it's almost standardised.

For the record, only one on my friends list knows how I sound, and (I think) only one knows what I truly look like. Kind of revelling in the anonymity here.

And yes, I'm in a spammy, solipsistic mood. Humour me.

Did you not do the voice recordings thing when we had the mad the craze for it at 'the' forum? Voices *are* a very personal thing, but I personally enjoy hearing what people sound like, although it can be disconcerting, because you expect them to sound like their text as you read it in your own head. I have a bit of a thing for voices, though; I think it comes from all my speech and drama training. I could fall in love with a man based on his voice...

No, Anna... I never did the voice thing. When Becks first heard me speak in New York, she was taken aback, and said that I was "so prim and proper."... heh.

I don't know... I mean, for example, when I read your writings, or Wiebke's...I don't think of it in an American or Australian accent... it would add further dimension to the writing to hear it, though.

Australians always tell me I sound Pommy because I don't have an ocker accent. We might be prim and proper together.

One day I'll let you hear me reading slash aloud. ;) It's a narrative experience.

I wanna do the voice thing because I have a weird voice. I don't sound anything like I should, given where I'm from. I sound like I'm from Nebraska, mixed in with New York and Georgia and Germany and England. Ack! I'd love to hear you or anyone else, just because voices and accents fascinate me.

I'd love to hear your accent... although I always imagine you to sound German! *Yes, strange indeed*

The accent thing fascinates me. I want to hear what you sound like, and Cesare, and Grace. Hell, I don't even know which part of America Cesare comes from, so I have no idea what to expect, although, again, conversely-- I always imagine her writings in a RP British voice.

I agree though... the voice thing is interesting-- it adds so much to what is being said, and would further emphasise the sheer geographical span of the LJ community.

So remind me where this voice thing is and what it's called? I've read several friends mention it...

D'oh...

I wonder who she's talking about... *eg*

I have no more microphone. Even if I did the crappy Mac MSN doesn't have voice chat on it yet :(

Yeah... it was kind of dispiriting that my accent appeared indecipherable to you...hee.

*Remembers waitress at Cracker Barrel poking fun at accent*

"You're so British!"

Well, duh.

I've a thing about accents and voices (just hearing James Mason and Sean Bean makes me swoon) but I've got to admit I don't think I'd want anyone to hear what I sounded like, I've a typical boring southern accent that is so standardised it's unbelieveable, I'd just feel ashamed almost next to everyone's way more interesting voices.

I can roughly guess what your voice would be like, but not entirely... no idea how strong/soft your accent would be.

Strangely though I have had a few people ask me if I was from up North just because of the words I used... aparently good proper girls from the south coast don't say things like "nowt" and "t'other" *shrug*

I'd love to hear all of the different foreign accents from evryone though.

I have that Germanic sharpness to my accent because of the Liverpool influence, but I don't have the harshness of voice or drop off the endin(g) from my words.

I went to university in Lancashire, which softened my voice a lot, though I don't use Northern terms like "nowt" or "anyroad" or whatever.

Because I hate English being mangled, I speak well, but if I'm really angry, an annoying Merseyside inflection creeps into my voice. I make sure I pronounce words properly, though I still can't bring myself to use Southern inflections such as "grahhhs or "frahnce"... lol!

So you have a standard accent, Pige? For some reason, I imagine you with a Gloucester accent, though you're probably not even from there... ;-)

Very standard I'm afraid, I was born at Shoreham-by-Sea and I've lived at Worthing (about ten miles along the coast) all my life, I'm West Sussex through and through *shrug*.

And yes, southern infections, oh the shame of it, it's all long vowel sounds like baaaarth not bath, and all those old fashioned posher pronunciations... though tempered with dropped "H's" and "in's" instead of "ing's"

You haven't seen the pic of me with David Dickinson, though. Only Pigeon's had the...er...dubious pleasure. >:-)
