So-- thanks to [livejournal.com profile] silverthoughts, The Vampire Lestat cast pictures.

Quick reaction: Not Louis; not Nicki; maybe Lestat if he has blond hair; Marius...?, Claudia is about forty; Gabrielle is okay; Armand is hot, if too old and WOES they dunt look the way one would think they should.

Reasoned reaction: They'll be on stage anyway, so just stick them in period clothing and wigs and we can just presume they are the characters. I mean, the voices are what matter in the musical above all, right? The empathy for the characters?

In his pre-psychiatrist bashing days, I think Tom Cruise took a fair stab at playing Lestat. Okay, he's too short, and sometimes one just realised it was Tom Cruise in a Blond Wig rather than Lestat, but you could tell he had enthusiasm for the character and the role, and I think it's evident in the film itself-- as opposed to Stuart Townsend sleepwalking through that awful thing that calls itself a sequel.

I rather liked the idea of the same actor playing Nicki and Louis; it would have served to emphasise them being "twins in their self-destruction" and all that. Nicki looks... different to how I thought he would, and Jim Stanek is not handsome enough to play Louis. Then again, few would come close to each of our idealised versions of the character.

Then again, even the most rabid fans can't agree on who should play their favourite character. Johnny Depp has always been my Louis, others think that's crazy talk, that is, and it should be Jonathon Rhys-Meyers. Others swear by...er...Brad Pitt.

In the end, Elton John and Bernie Taupin are big fans rather than b-list actors slumming it in a third-rate movie because they were kicked off the set of Lord of the Rings. And for that reason alone, I have faith in the production. Still sniggering at the thought of the lyrics, though. And saving up for San Francisco/New York. Oh, yes.

Come to NY... we still have Lucky Cheng's Drag Restaurant, Greenwich Village, and a big hole in the ground!

Saw Greenwich Village and the big hole in the ground in 2003, but damn, I loved New York, and there is so much more to see of that place. <3

I'd definitely love to go there again; and what better excuse than the musical? Could make for years of fannish love/snarking. ;)

Is that who he is?!

I sense a fangirl Google image search coming on...

Yup. Plus he spoofed Brad Pitt in a Steve Buscemi film called "Living in Oblivion", I believe. I had *such* a crush on him when I was 15.

Icon love.

I think I'm a few years behind you on the Jack love, but I shall endeavour to catch up.

*continues crying over this fiasco of a production*

I first saw Jack Noseworthy in some 10th rate series that MTV attempted in..um...1994 I think? when MTV was just starting to have actual shows...you know, back when they still showed mostly videos with the occasional non music bit...bleh

*cries some more*

MTV once played music? I refuse to believe it.

Would you not be tempted for TVL musicalness? It would be something to remember, either way. >:)

Mmm. Due to Italian/Irish engagements and such at the moment, I'm thinking it may be at least the beginning of Februrary before I can get to America, so NYC is looking more viable than SF at the moment... could be an opportunity for general hedonism, no? >:)

Why, thank you. ;)

1. Check your PM, missy.

2. Colorado is definitely still on the cards. You and [livejournal.com profile] avariecaita need some English evilness, dammit. >:)

The guy who's Armand actually looks like he'd make a pretty good Louis.

From: [identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com
He does, actually. He seems to have a lot of "presence" compared to some of the others. That said, Jim Stanek has a certain soft look about his eyes, which might be good for Louis. Not sure about every. other. feature though.

No, no, no! It's all wrong. I mean who the hell have they got playing Claudia for a start?

The chap who is Louis could perhaps play Marius. The one playing Lestat could possibly play Louis although he would need to be more ethereal. Armand is just too old.

I suppose we can be thankful that Elton hasn't donned a wig and decided to be Lestat himself!

Ashley? Mary-Kate?

I know Kirsten Dunst was a bit too old for the film, but she was brilliant as Claudia. I hope this girl can pull it off... even if she is forty.

I don't know why they couldn't cast a teenager for Armand, though. It's very strange. But er... not as strange as Elton John as Lestat, David Furnish as Louis. o_O

I would like Jonathon Rhys-Meyers as Louis I love depp but for some reason I don't think he quite has the look in his eyes even though I fancy him a lot more.

Oh and NY in spring the idea totally rocks.

I'm personally torn between Depp and Meyers. Meyers has youth, but Depp is more expressive and devastatingly handsome. Mmm. >:)

(What a pleasant thing the VC casting fantasy is)

Oh, definitely. Am up for NYC in spring. Then I'll do Colorado, and temperance be damned.

AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Casts change. Does no one get this?

Seriously. Does no one get it? It doesn't matter what these actors look like now. All that matters is if they have the stage presence and the voice to fill the role. And if they don't, then next season? The role gets cast again.

Clearly I'm going to have to stay away from TVL musical discussion.

NY! NY! NY! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!111!!!!

I'd go there in a New York Minute. (Hmm, stop the cheese.) But, I haven't been since I was little, and I got flashed that time on the bus. So, I'd like to put a better memory of the city in my mind.

As [livejournal.com profile] saffronlie has already stated: I too am staying out of the TVL Musical Casting debate. I've heard Hugh Panero sing, and it is GLORIOUS!! Maybe not my favourite tenor in the world ... but not bad on the ears ;) I think I've heard the woman playing Gabs as well. I'll have to get back with you.

Tra la!!!!!!!!!! *dies*
