Beck in Venice

Oh, I just slay myself.
A photograph can't convey how beautiful the panorama is when out on the open water. This was taken from a Vaparetto, one of the boats that act as a "bus" for the people of Venice.
This is me, in one of the backstreets where parts of Casanova were filmed. I swear I didn't intend to be so... far away and indistinguishable on it. Blame this photo on bad film developing and tiny photos.
Shyeah, photogenic city. I love how distant buildings seem to be rising from the mist.
Side street, near the Doge's palace. The bridge in the background is the infamous "Bridge of Sighs", where prisoners being taken from the Ducale palazzo to the gaol would catch their last glimpse of the city.
And...erm... here is the last view taken from inside that very bridge. Very fleeting glance of La Serenissima. This affected me quite a bit.
But see how lovely San Marco square is, and the Ducale Palazzo on the outside! Feh! The raised walkways you can see were erected that day because San Marco square was flooded in some areas.
The Pescaria (fish) market near the Rialto bridge. This place was amazing-- fresh fish caught from the Adriatic that very morning-- squid, crabs, prawns, monkfish-- everything you could think of. Alive, a lot of the time. We loved buying food from here, and the vegetable market stalls, and cooking at the apartment. It's impossible to find food this fresh where I live.
San Marco square. And there was no reason for me taking this photograph. None whatsoever. At all. Mmm.>:)
The Austrian alps, leading into Italy. My companion swore I would never get a picture of them from the aircraft. I rule!

Date: 2005-11-16 10:40 pm (UTC)Okay, I need to get back to Venice. I didn't appreciate it nearly enough during the two days I was there the summer I was sixteen (I was with my family and missed the rest of my choir, who had all just gone home; I had a cold; it was swelteringly hot; I was in that middle-of-a-long-trip slump; I was bitter because Venice was my sister's choice destination and we weren't going to mine at all; I just wanted to go home) - in retrospect, Venice was my favourite part of that whole stupid trip. My best friend and I have decided that the year we turn thirty, we are taking ourselves on a vacation there. Hurrah!!
