There was an extremely lulzy Guardian blog today about foods that turn your stomach. I don't mean the general aversion to broccoli and sprouts (the latter of which I adore), but those everyday foods that make you gag and spit and hack. I particularly like the fierce debate on the gruesomeness of cucumbers.

The food that makes me hack would be those evil yellow things, bananas. They're just so long and sweet and mushy. They're prevalent in everything! It's quite sad. And salted peanuts. They're like [cens0red for my lovely [profile] patchworkgirl_ ] bullets.

Which seemingly innocent foods make you want to hurl? Why? Entertain me. :p

I know it's wierd but most beans make me want to hurl; it's that dry-yet-mushy texture they have when cooked. I like string beans but that's it--don't come near me with kidney beans. Blech.

Hey, darlin', I'm sorry I missed your birthday, so I'm wishing you a belated happy birthday now. *contrite*

Kidney beans remind me of eating a beetle, with that hard/soft mushiness. Not that...er... I've ever eaten a beetle.

Haha, no bother. Thanks for the wishes :)

I've tried and tried to like bananas but I can't swallow more than a bite.
For reasons of lulzy insanity, I didn't eat baked beans for 14 years and still can't drink Ribena.

Eating a banana is like performing some sort of penance. It just goes on and on until you feel your insides turning to fructose.

Now, I can deal with baked beans, but Ribena reminds me of cough medicine.

(A lot of people really seem to dislike beans. Huh.)

I cannot believe you just wrote jism. It's like hearing your Dad swear or catching your Mum tapped out on meth in your room even though she swears she's been clean six months but if so why she refusing to take the blood test, huh huh?

I've never been somebody who's fussy and says "I don't eat ______" but ugh, watermelon is gross.

The most disgusting, but not (thank you!) everyday (for Westerners) food I've sampled is durian. Bar non.

*Googles*

What an ugly fruit!

From: [identity profile] wiebke.livejournal.com
Not only is durian ugly, it is REPULSIVE. It's the only fruit, vegie or non-animal product I've ever eaten that reminds me of rotten meat. Or maybe rotten brains. It's bad, that's for sure. One taste is enough to last a lifetime. And yet it's very common and popular in some parts of the world, like Vietnam. Although restaurants that serve it are sometimes required (kid you not) to have a special ventilation system to deal with the smell. The. Most. Vile.

rice pudding and semolina, its the texture, white blobbly, sticky stuff of no taste. and as for putting a blob of jam in the middle thats really going to make it taste nicer! as a rule cant stomach the stuff since being force fed it at school juniors.

Bet it's "pukes"!

I can't stand mushrooms. Cooked, they're slimy and I suspect them of actually being the slugs they resemble. Unfortunately Rem loves mushrooms (with everything - he'll turn into one!) and is constantly trying to convert me. I avoid them with the unstoppable argument that I'm on a low-residue diet, though we have an ongoing debate as to whether a fungus can be compared to a vegetable in terms of insoluble fibre content.

I also hate onions - again, I can't eat them anyway, but I never liked them because they're slimy (we have a theme). The annoying thing is how often you find them in otherwise respectable food.

Leeks - atrocious. Tesco used to do a lovely chicken and leek pie. I picked the leeks out, but their sliminess disgusted me anyway. Then Tesco added absurd amounts of pepper to the pie and RUINED it, the cochons.

I don't like it when meat has bits of gristle or fat in. ANY bits of gristle or fat. I have no tolerance for this.

Oh, and lettuce (again, a food I have an excuse to avoid) is just flappy and flat and doesn't let itself be chewed. Oddly enough I loved cabbage as a kid and I really miss it, but spinach revolts me. It's sloppy and it even SMELLS green. It's like wet grass.

Anything chocolate flavoured that is not a bar of chocolate – eg chocolate ice cream or chocolate cake – esp chocolate cake that has gooey sticky stuff in the centre – chocolate fudge cake etc! ewwwwwwwww… it makes me want to vomit just thinking about it! Also – all types of nuts! and I agree with [profile] jaffacakequeen on the milky puddings!

However I DO like cucumber and banana – YUM!!!

Eww, I HATE CHOCOLATE FUDGE CAKE :O

I'm convinced that bananas are the work of the devil. I also hate sliced avacodo on sandwiches. I'm okay eating it any other way but on sandwiches...ughhhh. Oh and I really hate sliced tomato and cheese sandwiches that have got a bit warm...bleughhhhh
