(no subject)

I JUST MADE MY FIRST EVER SPICED PUMPKIN SOUP. IT TOOK ME SO LONG TO CUT THAT STUPID VEGETABLE UP BUT IT WAS WORTH IT.

It was amazing and lovely and tasty and I was very pleased because totally having it with some crusty bread and taking it into work tomorrow.

I gave it one more taste, thought, 'hmm. This could do with just a little salt.'

So I bring the salt over, shake it once -- and the entire -- THE ENTIRE CELLAR OF SALT -- has just collapsed into mah lovely soup. I flapped and tried to scoop it out, but it's saltier than the goddamn Mediterranean.

I AM DEVASTATED RIGHT NOW ;_;

OH NO.

THAT'S HORRIBLE.

I AM SO SORRY, BB.

WE ALL MOURN WITH YOU TODAY.

*APPLAUSE* XD

[identity profile] pointedulac.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh. That's the WORST! What a waste. D:

Appropriate Fry icon though.

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
That was pretty much my face when it happened, ngl!

[identity profile] jenifae.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG! I'd be all like
I've never had pumpkin soup but i'd like to try it. Is there any way you can use canned pumpkin or does it have to be fresh?

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
YES YES THIS IS HOW I FELT! Possibly also what I said.

I'm not sure if you can use canned. I guess that'd be okay? But it just tasted so good once it was done. Like, I knew everyone would want to try some.

Luckily, my sis-in-law just got me some more before the shops shut. :p

[identity profile] diana-molloy.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you cut it all? I cut mine in half (only smaller ones. Big ones are grown for look not flavour) scoop out seeds and bake the halves. Minimal effort. Same with butternut squash.

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I did. But with the second lot, I just steamed it whole and then scooped it out. Much less frustrating!

[identity profile] timeofnoreply.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
You could use canned - just make sure you get plain unflavored pumpkin, and not pumpkin pie filling, which has sugar and stuff added to it.

[identity profile] diana-molloy.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Here we only have the libby's tins. Not sure which it is as the can I have Is in the kitchen. But pumpkin isn't a big thing here so choice is limited.

[identity profile] timeofnoreply.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I keep forgetting that it's not huge in the UK! We're gearing up for Thanksgiving over here, so it's starting to be placed a lot more prominently on shelves in the supermarket. I love pumpkin all the time, though. Pumpkin cheesecake OMNOMNOM.

[identity profile] mcgarrygirl78.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh that sucks so hard sweetie. I'm sorry : (

Note for you: I always shake the salt into my hand and then put it in something. It's the klutz's way to make sure something like that never happens again.

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I did that with the second lot and will always, always make sure I do it again. It's so frustrating, because I only ever salt three things: pork (which I don't eat anymore), soup and chips. Trust this to happen! ;)

[identity profile] ukashi-goshi.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! D:

*cues five stages of grief*

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I WENT THROUGH THAT

I kind of gaped, unsure what to do, then begged and pleaded, then raged, then accepted. XD

[identity profile] gairid.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
What a dreadful occurence---damn thee to hell,O Sodium D:

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! It can bloody well go to hell!

I love that gif so hard! Extremely appropriate!

I made it again -- my sister-in-law managed to get to the shop and procure me another pumpking before it shut for Sunday. Success!

Add lots of chunks of potato and boil until they are soft. They will absorb the salt but also thicken the soup so you may need to thin it down again with some water. Repeat until the saltiness has gone. I hope it works. It usually does but it depends on how salty it is.

[identity profile] diana-molloy.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep done this with VRAM soup I've fucked up. Really helps. For that amount of salt probably worth separating and using a few large taties in each pan.

[identity profile] diana-molloy.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
VRAM is bean. Damn phone

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Alas, it was an entire cellar of rock salt. Even a small amount is too much for me. I tried to reduce it, but it was better in the end to just start again. Never mind, it was just as nice second time around.

I will remember the potato trick should this accursed thing happen again, though!

[identity profile] laviniaspeaks.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
POTATOES ARE KEY TO SALT REMOVAL

[identity profile] absinthe90.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
OH BB. ALL MY CREYS FOR YOUR CAKE.
Photobucket

...WHICH REMINDS ME I still have recipes to send you. But you're never around, sob.

[identity profile] timeofnoreply.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
That GIF never fails to make me laugh like hell.

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I love that character so, so hard!

[identity profile] timeofnoreply.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Whatever did happen to that story you were writing?

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Very prescient, for I'm writing Brittana right now. It's a very strange mix of angst and silly humour, though. Do you want me to send you a preview? I was going to ask you to beta it this week as it deals with American college and everything and, you know, am British and all.

[identity profile] timeofnoreply.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, if you'd like to, I'm totally down for a preview!

And feel free to send the completed version to me when you're finished. I'll be more than happy to beta for you. :-)

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I'm nervous about it because I usually write silly Glee fic, but sent! :D

[identity profile] timeofnoreply.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
You've written a lot more Glee fic than I have - I managed one short bit that I kept to my own LJ because I was so embarrassed. And received! And replied to! XD

[identity profile] absinthe90.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, right?! Santana has the best creys EVER.

Photobucket

You're into Glee too? That's awesome! Even though I am still intimidated by you clever folks in general

[identity profile] timeofnoreply.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Glee! The trick is to not take it seriously. At all. Ever. Or think about it super hard. Otherwise, you'll wind up going crazy. I'm all about the Brittana, tbh.

Pssh. We're nothing to be intimidated by, especially me - I'm a big goofball.

[identity profile] absinthe90.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I try not to! I just have this hatred of Blarren/Klaine stans. Just. No. I can't get over that.

Brittana is so adorable, I do like it. Although I loved Bartie tbh. DON'T HIT ME *dodges blow*

It's just you guys are so creative and productive and kinda all know each other from way back and and and. But I like goofbally stuff.:D

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahaha. Mi reina Santana knows exactly how I feel!

I'll try and be around this week, bb! No internet at work so I won't be around till about 8pm CET!

[identity profile] absinthe90.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
That's okay! I'm trying to get over my emotional block so I can write some VC. It's not working.

...I mean I should be studying for exams anyway but SSHHHH.

[identity profile] laviniaspeaks.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
NOOOOOOO! Quickly! Add a potato!!

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I just restarted and made it all over again. On the plus side, it was nommalicious. :D

[identity profile] suureal.livejournal.com 2011-10-03 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
Oh noooooo.... I hate it when that happens :(

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-10-03 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the worst. :(

[identity profile] saffronlie.livejournal.com 2011-10-03 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
OMG THAT IS PAIN

With you on cutting up pumpkins. Even smallish squash/pumpkin/whatever is annoying for me. I totally buy pre-cut pumpkin when the supermarket has it. THE COST IS WORTH IT. *whistles*

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-10-03 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It was literal pain when some of the salt got in a cut I didn't know I had. ;-;

I WISH I could get that pre-cut pumpkin! Why is it so hard to cut, bb? Why?

[identity profile] saffronlie.livejournal.com 2011-10-03 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably as a defence against us eating it. VEGETABLES, SO CLEVER.
