So they've killed the second hostage. That poor man and the terror he must have felt.

The Liverpudlian is next. Tony Blair pontificates about refusing to bow to terror whilst in Liverpool today they held a candelit vigil and his eldery mother wept and pleaded for his life to be spared.

It's likely a matter of time before the third hostage is killed. Then there will be the usual rhetoric, the "strengthening" of resolve against the terrorists. Perhaps there will be more pain visited upon the poor people of Iraq.

This conflict is the most disgusting and depressing of things. And now fucking Dubya is on television speaking in slow, haughty tones about prevailing over terrorism, using the UN for election spin, the two dead American men nothing more than fodder for his spin. Words fail me.

Yup.

The second American is from Atlanta and the local news is full of it. Really bad news.

I don't know what governments can really do since I don't think it's a good idea to give in to demands...

although they wouldn't BE in this situation of dealing with demands if they haven't UNILATERALLY INVADED A COUNTRY!

Grrrr.

In other news, got this of AlterNet today...

If Cheney can't say it, Hastert will
Two weeks ago, Dick Cheney tried to channel fear into voting when he said Americans faced a likely terrorist attack if voters make the "wrong choice" in November. Cheney took a few bullets for that, and it could keep him from saying such things again, but that hasn't stopped him from appearing with other GOP luminaries who push the same message. Enter Dennis Hastert -- he of the Soros scandal mongering -- who joined Cheney at a recent campaign stop in Illinois. Hastert let loose the worst comments yet: When a reporter asked Hastert if he thought al Qaeda would operate with more comfort if Kerry were elected, the speaker said, "That's my opinion, yes."

Our Vice President is such an ass. Like... he said *in public* that voting for Kerry is voting for terrors. *gulp*

That underhand prick! Argh!

Did you hear about the British ambassador in Rome who basically said that nobody would love it if Bush was re-elected more than Al-Qaeda?

That caused a few ructions, I can tell you. Ha!

Seriously-- with regards to the government thing. You're right about them not being able to do much, and also about the simple fact that if they hadn't destabilised the region, this killing would not be going on. It's the abject arrogance of Blair and Bush that beggars belief. I wonder if they'd view it all differently if their family members were over there and not ordinary 'expendable' people...

Phoney Tony and his variably unbending attitude to terror. These people lose sight completely of the ordinary people who suffer.

Why can't they try to rescue these people? It doesn't seem like they are even trying to do anything, the governments just say "we won't cooperate with terrorists" and so sorry to the poor people about to be murdered.

One of those men they beheaded was from where I grew up. I'd seen him around town, he'd let me ahead of him in line at the store cause I only had a few things, and then to see him on the news as the sickos are about to kill him....

Its disgusting

They showed the video of the first hostage being beheaded on CNN last night. He was begging and pleading for them not to do it, and his screams will echo in my head for a very long time.

This war is sickening. And Bush is totally using the war as his re-election platform. He's exploiting 9/11, and it doesn't sit well with me at all. He has actually said the world is a safer place since he came into office and that he's the only person qualified to be President at this point in time.

I think if anything his being in office does nothing but give terrorists more reason to continue murdering innocent people.

I can honestly say that I am ashamed of this country right now. I'm embarrassed to be represented by such a mindless puppet.

I am a liberal Democrat, and I will say that I do not like John Kerry either. I've never seen someone change their stance on so many issues as he does. And his wife, Teresa, is the most disagreeable, hateful Nazi-wannabe I've ever seen!

For the first time since I have been able to vote, I honestly feel I'm voting for the lesser of two evils. I will certainly vote Democrat, but my vote will not be to put John Kerry into office. It will be to remove George Bush from his position.
